Adding a Master Valve

Modified on Wed, 13 Nov at 5:55 PM

This walkthrough assumes the decoder is both installed and added to the controller. If it is not, follow the relevant link at the bottom of this article.

Note: NG or LD (legacy) decoders do not require additional configuration to be used as a Master Valve. Customers retrofitting on RKLD-050 decoders must have pre-programmed the decoder for a N/O ("NOM") or N/C ("MV") master valve.

  1. Navigate to   Irrigation controller Hydraulics
  2. Under the pipe containing the master valve, click  under rule
  3. Under FLOW VALVE, click
  4. Under Type, select the type of master valve being used.
  5. Under IO, select the decoder address corresponding to the decoder installed on master valve
  6. Set the recommended values to your system under Start delay, Stop delay, and Capacity
    1. Start Delay (sec): A delay in start from the first downstream station starts until the pump or MV is activated. For most systems with using a single water source per mainline, this should be 0 seconds.
    2. Stop Delay (sec): A delay in stop from the last downstream station stops until the pump or MV is deactivated. For most systems with modern "VFD" Pump Systems, this should be 3 seconds.
    3. Capacity (GPM): This should equal the capacity of the pipe it is assigned to in most cases.
  7. Click CREATE.

If you have not yet added the master valve decoder, follow the link relevant to your model of decoder below:
