Step 2 - Establish Your Benchmark & System Layout

Modified on Fri, 24 Jan at 11:29 AM

Establishing your system benchmark is an important step in the 2-Wire troubleshooting process. Establishing a system benchmark requires calculating the approximate (mA) draw on the system based on the quantity and the type of decoders installed. This will act as a reference point for what is electrically "normal" for your site.

1. Calculating your benchmark value gives you a reference for "normal" system conditions

2. Determine the number of decoders you have & their respective standby current(s)

3. Multiply the standby current(s) by the number of decoders installed

Station Decoders:
RKLD-050 = 0.5 mA
LD-050 / LD-100 = 0.5 mA
LD-200/ LD-400 / LD-600 = 1.0 mA
NG-050 / NG-200/ NG-400/ NG-600 = 0.4 mA

Sensor Decoders:
SD-100 / SD-220 (TWC/TWI) = 8.0 mA

SD-110 (NLP) = 0.8 mA

Pump Decoder:

PD-100 = 0.5 mA

Surge Protection:
SP-100 = 0.0 mA

i.e. (60) LD-050s, (10) LD-600s & (1) SD-100 = 48mA benchmark

Note: Establishing an accurate benchmark is important for determining 2-Wire health. If you are not sure of make & model of your decoders, you must be sure of the controller make & model to move forward. Use the following as basic guide for legacy controllers:
